The Show Report, 8/7: Put that Dirty Blonde wig on, baby. It’s a very sexy night.

August 7, 2009

Dirty Blondes at ArtWalk? Isn’t ArtWalk supposed to be a family-friendly, chill event? Oh, not tonight, chickadees. Tonight the four Dirty Blondes–namely Ranald Ives Cummings III, Renton Fallstaff, Nathan Mattney and Timmy Miano–take over ArtWalk night with the sexiest, sloppiest, most debaucherous show this side of a Tokyo sex show. (Well, it’s good horny punk rock, anyway.) It’s also the last night you’ll ever get to see said show happen, as the band says farewell on The Outland Ballroom’s stage tonight. Joining them will be The Disappointments, who are pulling the double-whammy of a CD release party and farewell show of their own; the immortal Pilot Whale, not seen since his set with Black Box Revue earlier this summer; and The Vagina Massacre, who win the prize for Best Band Name in Springfield and, we’re told, rock at the simulated-concert game Rock Band. They must, since they perform using the game. Expect one hell of a rock show… and, by the end of the night, one hell of a mess. But then, in the world of Dirty Blondes, messy is good.

The Dirty Blondes announce final show

July 23, 2009

The Dirty Blondes, The Outland,

It’s been known for some time now that local punk rock stalwarts The Dirty Blondes are splitting up–they even kind of cryptically danced around the subject on The FourFour Show–but in the almost two months since there has been no follow-up announcement. Now, Blondes fans, take solace; you’ll have one last chance to wave goodbye as you (and they) thrash around the room. The Blondes will play their farewell show August 7 at The Outland Ballroom with Pilot Whale, The Disappointments and Rock Band-based, er, rock band The Vagina Massacre. The show will also be the CD release party for The Disappointments, and, if the Blondes’ MySpace blog is to be believed, its farewell, too. Two endings, a new album, a dance party and an impromptu Rock Band showcase… would you want any more from a Dirty Blondes show? You know, besides another show after it?

“IF YOU’RE NOT INTO METAL, YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND”

August 23, 2008

That’s the headline on The Filthy Thirds’ Myspace, and yup…pretty much sums up what’s going down tonight.

We recently reviewed the brand new Filthy Thirds’ album being release tonight, “Stone Dead” (read the review here). This is the most aggressive, loud and guitar-driven rock/metal to hit Springfield in some time. Think Danzig killed and ate Motorhead and Manowar and AC/DC. What Danzig would shit out would pretty much be The Filthy Thirds. You heard me, and they are DAMN GOOD at it! Find out where the slaughter is going down…
