The Show Report, 10/15: It’s getting hectic

October 15, 2009

Ah, it’s good to have The Steve Ewing Band back in town tonight, especially if you’re among the local masses who remember his days fronting St. Louis-based ska-rock group The Urge. Rockin’ it solo-style now, Ewing’s shows haven’t gone down much in intensity (he’s a little older now, of course, but he still bounds around the stage same as always) and he’s even been known to incorporate the local talent into his shows with guest performers plucked from his opening acts. With The Highest Priest and My Wasted Life sharing the bill tonight at The Outland Ballroom, we can’t wait to see what the results might be. Keep an eye out for some surprise collabos and more than a few old faves.

Also playing tonight:

Hmmm… It’s a rainy, cold-ish First Friday… Need something to cure the blahs… Hey, what’s Steve Ewing doing tonight? As luck would have it, the man who fronted The Urge in the ’90s and early ’00s is in town tonight to play The High Life Live Martini Lounge. Nothing like renditions of “Brainless,” “Open All Night” and more to jostle the masses awake.

Once you’re jostled, you’ll want to check out the shows we have for you after the break, too.

Rock Talk 11/23: The Past Returns with Scotty Dickinson and Dan Magnum

November 24, 2008

For one night on Z106.7’s Rock Talk, it felt like it was 1995 all over again. Scotty Dickinson booking live rock bands in his club? Dan the Man (from Channel Z 104.7 FM, if you remember those days, or Dan Magnum today) on the radio?! Hey, isn’t the Urge (sorta) coming to town again soon?!?! It was like we were living an episode of Life On Mars, only it wasn’t the ’70s and there was no Gretchen Mol to be seen anywhere.

Anyway, Scotty dropped in to tell us about the High Life’s transition from dance club to the High Life Live Martini Lounge, with its new stage, sound and lighting equipment to welcome bands of all genres. Dan came by to let us know about Forever Endeavor Productions‘ upcoming shows, the most immediate of which is the sixth annual Dan Magnum’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas on December 20 at the Outland Ballroom.

The full show follows after the break. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to dig up our Phunk Junkeez CD.
