Matt Stell

For weeks before we saw them we heard the buzz around Matt Stell & The Crashers, and we finally caught a set at Tommy Leo’s on a wild St. Patrick’s Day night and saw what people were talking about. Now the group is preparing to take the next step up with a CD release party for its newly completed album, The Sound and the Story, at The Outland Ballroom May 9 with opening act The Josh Davis Band. The show forms part of the band’s trek through Missouri, Kansas and Texas, a tour that includes a return trip to the Ballroom May 30 to perform with Brian Lumley & Red Dirt Underground, all in support of the album’s nationwide release. Could a nationwide tour be next?

Centro-Matic coming to Randy Bacon Gallery Sounds May 8

April 7, 2009

It’s been quiet on the Gallery Sounds front since the NeverShoutNever/Do Tell & The Rumors/Carter Hulsey show on Valentine’s Day, but while there may be plenty to concentrate on with a new recording studio inside of the Monarch Art Factory on College Street the Randy Bacon Gallery isn’t dormant. The latest confirmed show, not listed yet on the Gallery Sounds website, is that of Texas indie-rock group Centro-Matic. The opening act is scheduled to be Austin-based melodic “landscape rock” group Monahans, named for the sand hills that form in West Texas. No word yet on ticket cost, but we’ll get it to you as soon as we have it.

The DeRosh: Have idiocy, will travel. Also, note the local band T-shirt in a foreign country. Reppin' worldwide, yo!

That’s right, your faithful ne’er-do-well-with-a-laptop is hitting the road to follow Springfield’s representatives at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.* If all goes well, i.e. I don’t end up in jail or otherwise incapacitated, you should start seeing some recaps, pics and other sweet nuggets of musical goodness sometime tomorrow and continuing through the weekend.

Then my broke, tired ass will be back doing his usual thang on Monday. Peace out, mah homies.

* What this really amounts to: DeRosh will be another one of the thousands of douchebag bloggers wandering around with his laptop and extra-pasty skin in the Texas sun. Yee-haw!

A local SXSW party of a different kind

February 20, 2009

losecontrol_09So you think South By Southwest is about an endless series of indie bands, beer gardens and music bloggers? Nope. Springfield is bringing the dance party. Read after the break.

Springfield Goes To SXSW 2009

January 22, 2009

sxsw2009muAustin’s annual South By Southwest music and film festival is still two months away (the full event is March 13-22, while the music festival runs specifically March 18-22), but we can already tell you that you have good reasons to make the drive to attend. Not only that, you’ll find some familiar faces onstage when you get there: Springfield bands Ha Ha Tonka (previously known as Amsterband) and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (set up by Polyvinyl, apparently, but canceled by the band) are both is on the list of acts playing showcase shows during the second weekend. (For a complete list of performers, click here.) We’re guessing here that the band secured the show with help from its label, Bloodshot Records, though that’s not confirmed. Regardless, they’ll be there and they’ll be playing–representing for Springfield at an internationally known music happening.

Need more reasons to make the road trip? Follow after the break.
