Meet MayApple Studio PLUS SPECIAL OFFER!

June 23, 2009

It appears two major musical forces in The Springfield Scene are teaming up for a new project. MayApple Records chief and Big Smith singer Mark Bilyeu is working with Never Saints and Sociables keyboardist and singer Daniel Maple to record local musicians outside the MayApple family and regardless of genre. MayApple Studio is a converted house in a country-ish setting on East Cherry Street, fully equipped with Logic and Pro Tools along with the other houselike amenities… ya know, since it’s a converted house. We’re not used to hearing phrases such as “parkayed floors,” “full kitchen,” “Jacuzzi” or “rain-making shower” in the description of a recording space, yet there they are in the description of this facility.

It’s a low-pro bungalow befitting a Hollywood setting, which is fitting given Maple’s experience recording major-label acts such as Maroon 5, Britney Spears and more while living in California a few years ago. Add in Bilyeu’s access to the infrastructure to get CDs professionally pressed and you have a one-stop place to get top-shelf sound… for the you-can’t-be-serious price of $35 per hour, with negotiable price breaks for larger time blocks or full-album agreements.

That’s not all. Click the words below for a special introductory offer valid this weekend ONLY.

My Wasted Life back in the studio

May 8, 2009

My Wasted LifeIt’s been under wraps for a while, but My Wasted Life drummer Renton Fallstaff recently mentioned to us that the punk/ska/rock group is in the Close/Far Studio with Jonathan James and Ryan Spilken working on a new record. Details are sparse at the moment, but word is we should see a finished product sometime this summer. A previous attempt to record an album last year never saw the light of day, but according to Fallstaff the band seems much happier with its progress this time around. We eagerly await the results.

Josh Heinrichs update

May 1, 2009

heinrichsWe just got a raft of new information regarding the recent goings-on of former Jah Roots singer Josh Heinrichs. First, his new album: Recording has gone on for a few months now, but the latest word from Heinrichs is that a finished album will see the light of day at the end of this month. The six-song EP, to be titled Things Change, will be an acoustic record with some backing instrumentation from members of SeedLove and 77 Jefferson. With a new CD, of course, comes a new tour, which will begin this summer and travel throughout the country–but not before a return performance with Cas Haley at The Outland Ballroom on June 6. Follow all that with an appearance at Schwagstock in September and you have a pretty busy schedule. When it comes to Heinrichs, though, we wouldn’t expect anything less.
