The Show Report, 7/21: Don’t Hurt my Sick Puppies!

July 21, 2009

SickPuppiesAdmat_sprng_gs1Tonight it’s FM Productions‘ turn to take the wheel and put on the night’s big show: Hurt, Sick Puppies, Tunnels to Holland and The Veer Union at Remmingtons Downtown. The Shrine Mosque gets quiet show-wise in the summertime–it’s an old building and hard to keep cool–but FM occasionally will put on a show in another spot and keep the ball rolling. It should be rolling quite well tonight–a summertime Tuesday, mind you. No tumbleweeds rolling through town this year, that’s for sure. Be at Remmingtons early for the 7 p.m. door time; there should be a pretty good crowd for this one.

Tonight you’ll also find:

* BIG local hip hop show at The Blue Room at Billiards of Springfield: AcuMen, MC Tommy P of The Spacetones, SincerelyYours, Rhyme University (from Columbia, MO) and Roots Of Mankind. A lot of show for five bucks, eh? Starts at 9 p.m.

* Open Mic Night at The Outland

* Blues Jam at Dennis’ Place

The Show Report, 5/29: That’s a joke, right?

May 29, 2009

Korn_ShrineSo, DeRosh, what’s going on in Springfield tonight?

Oh, you know, it’s a lazy Friday evening; there’s likely a lively game of parcheesi going on somewhere… are you kidding?! Tonight’s Korn night! It’s been years since Springfield has had a show of this magnitude roll through, and tonight is finally green-light-go time. Opening the show are fellow touring act Aranda and local battle-of-the-bands winner Troy, all of which combines to mean a packed-to-the-rafters Shrine Mosque and a very, very busy Shriner bar downstairs.

We’re just getting started on your Friday, though. Lots more to see and do after the break.

***UPDATED*** The Show Report, 5/15: Know that we have always been down, down

May 15, 2009

311If watching GWAR ravage Remmingtons Downtown wasn’t enough of a blast from the past for local showgoers, tonight’s follow-up raises the bar another notch. 311 takes over The Shrine Mosque with opening act Full Service starting at 8 p.m. We’re prepared to party like it’s 1995 all over again. (Or choose your year of preference from the mid-’90s/late ’90s/early ’00s to party like.) With an early start time, you can hit this show as the starting point to your night, too, which leaves time to get to tonight’s other events:

Full Service announced as 311 opener Friday

May 12, 2009

Full ServiceWith the Springfield leg of 311‘s tour rolling through town on Friday (at The Shrine Mosque), one question seemingly remained unanswered: Is there an opener, and, if so, whom? There is, and it turns out that honor goes to the Austin, Texas-based jam band Full Service, which has opened numerous shows for 311 in the past and has also performed a handful of Midwest dates with the group this time around, as well. Just getting that out there. Now let the show anticipation continue.

VIP ticket offer for Shinedown/Saving Abel show ends tomorrow

April 16, 2009

shinedownFree food, discounted drinks, the prospect of a potential meet-and-greet with Shinedown and Saving Abel… that all adds up to one hell of a night at The Shrine Mosque, and your chance to gain these extra privileges is about to expire. When the Shrine box office closes tomorrow at 5 p.m. you either have your regular-price tickets ($30) in hand, complete with free VIP upgrade, or you get them later and watch from the not-VIP areas and do not-VIP things with the rest of the schlubs.

Don’t be a schlub. Get your tickets tomorrow and party with the rock stars, if not necessarily like them.

Who’s opening for Korn? Decide yourself!

April 11, 2009

Word just came to us that the local opener for the May 29 Korn show at The Shrine Mosque will be decided by a battle of the bands at Remmington’s Downtown on May 9. This news came our way courtesy of local metal group Extreme Hate Frequency, who is already soliciting votes for show night, so we assume they are one of the bands involved in the contest. No word yet on who else will take part, but as soon as we find out you will too.
