Cuz Chicks Dig ‘Em: scarswillfade returns

September 1, 2009

scarsThere has been a flurry of defunct bands returning to stages in Springfield this year, but when we heard local rock group scarswillfade would be joining that list we were a bit surprised. We hadn’t heard so much as a rumor about the group since its farewell show at The Snorty Horse Saloon oh-so-long ago. Then came an email earlier this week with the announcement, as well as details.

Another “hiatus” ends: Jah Roots announces show dates

January 16, 2009
Dude, bitchin' mountains and all, but let's go home. Seriously. Anyone see the van?

Hell yeah, we took a break! We did... you know... stuff. Get the bongos! It's showtime!

Winter is nowhere near over–for God’s sake, have you looked outside?–but local bands are already coming out of hibernation. Consider: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin returns from its two-month break in a little more than a week with a show at Patton Alley Pub. Now comes word that Jah Roots, after already calling timeout on its hiatus for Bob Marley’s Birthday Bash at Remmingtons Downtown February 6, is ready with a fresh batch of shows in the spring. Color us not surprised.

SSLYBY to World: We’re back, bitches

January 3, 2009

sslybySometimes you don’t need a hiatus from something so much as a few steps back. That appears to be the case with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, who announced a break in mid-November that would last at least to the end of the year. Two and a half months later, the group is back: Its first gig, fresh as four daisies with instruments, will be January 24 at Patton Alley Pub, according to Patton’s MySpace. After that, it’s back on the road with shows to play in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska before making their way to the East Coast. So not only is the 1/24 show the band’s first local performance in a few months, it could also be their last for just as long.

Don’t Call It a Comeback: The Adrenals to play again Oct. 1

Shout from the heavens! We're back!

Shout from the heavens! We're back!

The words “told you so” haven’t felt this good in a long time. Meanwhile, a certain Punk Rock Wednesday just got a whole lot more interesting. Just a couple of months after longtime local punk band the Adrenals played its farewell concert, the band is back at the Outland for its return(?) gig on Wednesday, October 1, with Parasite Diet and the Reacharounds.

The reason? They had too much fun playing the farewell gig. It looks unlikely the band will tour like it did in the past–all of the members are in the middle of other projects and careers–but we may get to see more gigs like this in the future. Lace up the Doc Martens and grease up the mohawk again. It’s time to slam dance!
