The Infamous Stringdusters coming to Patton Alley Pub

April 27, 2009

stringdustersWe’d begun to wonder what happened to Patton Alley Pub’s plan to bring nationally touring acts through the lovable Patton Avenue bar. They seemed to be on to something after bringing Split Lip Rayfield to Springfield, then after one more national Patton Alley seemed to concentrate on the local–props for that–while the national-act agenda went low-pro.¬†

Well, perhaps it has awakened. (more…)

High Strung In-House concert tonight!

February 28, 2009

highstrungThat’s right, a concert in a music store! Yeah, its pretty freakin’ cool. Dave has had pretty good success so far with a recent packed house show with almost 100 people in the store (whew, what a squeeeeeze!). The once-a-month series returns tonight with The Workmen Bluegrass Band. The show is early (from about 7pm-8pm or so). Might be a great way to get warmed up before the rest of your night. If you can stop by and support.

More info on the event here.

Rock Talk (2/22/09) w/FrogEyeJugBand, Levee, & Jam Room (w/video & picturefication)

February 24, 2009

This weekend was a blast with tons of great high energy shows. Luckily we always have Sunday nights to cap off the weekend with some great music. This week we had FrogEyeJugBand come in a perform live. Levee dropped in with some “cock rock” and blasted some tunes. Lastly, Jam Room came in and did what they do best…jam. 3 bands, 4 songs performed live in the studio and even more played. Plus all the random convo and show recap/previews you can handle (with a mouth full of sweethearts candies). Listen in after the break.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Benefit TONIGHT (2/20) at Front Porch

February 20, 2009

bigbrothersbigsistersDave Harp (owner High Strung Music and local musician) is hosting a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters at The Front Porch (S. Street and McDaniel in Springfield, MO). He’s got a really good lineup and might be looking for some extra talent to bring some butts in the door for a good cause. Want to help? You should.

Welcome Back, Lindberg’s: Big Smith booked to play Lindy’s on Fat Tuesday

February 1, 2009

With all parties (contractually) sworn to secrecy until after last night’s Big Smith and BBQ show at Hammons Hall, this one has been under people’s hats for a while now. With the calendar now reading February, though, the veil can be lifted. Big Smith is coming back to Lindberg’s for (we believe) its first show there since the first C-Street Jam in 2006, playing the Commercial Street bar on February 24, aka Fat Tuesday. Meanwhile, with the downtown pub crawls once again in a state of flux, here comes a solid, good-time-guaranteed party plan on one of America’s ultimate party nights. Bring your beads… but make sure you have your overalls on underneath them.

In case you haven’t bought your bib yet…

January 29, 2009

if-you-barbecueSaturday marks one of local music’s messiest traditions, but oh, how it does bring the people: Big Smith and BBQ at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. If you’re unfamiliar, the show combines a barbecue meal to scarf down before filing into the hall for a performance by local country-bluegrass legends Big Smith and opening act Walkenhorst & Porter.

Tickets are $13 or $26, depending on where you sit, and the festivities begin at 8 p.m. (Click here to buy tickets.) It’s as down-home as musical events get in Springfield, and we suggest coming prepared, bib in hand.

Okay, that’s a joke, but do come hungry. Brisket waits for no man.
