We’ve seen ensemble casts in movies, even the occasional ensemble song, and there are certainly some smaller ensembles out there that made albums… but what about a local ensemble? Cory King, guitarist for The First Teenager Ever and Sunrise Cassette in addition to doing solo work, began work on an album project a few weeks ago and wants to expand his list of collaborators… to as much of the local scene as possible.

Washington Irving’s new EP now on The Internets

July 22, 2009

Washington Irving, Outland Ballroom, TK

One has to admire the pluck of Washington Irving, a group in its final weeks but scrambling to get everything done that it can before its demise. There are far more cases of bands mailing it in at the eleventh hour, but the local indie-rock band took the opposite approach in the hopes of cleaning out its musical closet. Just in time for the group’s next-to-last show last Saturday night at The Outland, the group prepared¬†Symposium for the Devil, a collection of songs the band left on the back burner but wanted to put forth to the public while it still could. The four-track EP was recorded at Blake Walker Audio (Walker is the band’s drummer) and is available for listening on Washington Irving’s MySpace page, and copies of the CD will be available at the band’s final show at Lindberg’s on August 1. The band will be gone August 2, but at least you’ll have something to remember it by.

We aren’t dead yet! Washington Irving prepares EP of unreleased tracks

Washington Irving, Outland Ballroom, July 26, 2008

No, they will not go quietly into that good night, sir. Indeed, Washington Irving will rage against the dying of the light as long as it can. Not only has it booked more shows in less time than ever before in order to take advantage of the last while before guitarist Brett O’Neal moves to Illinois, the ’90s-influenced indie band is dusting off a collection of songs it never recorded before. With time running out–the group’s final show is August 1–it is making one last EP and releasing the last bit of up-to-par material it can. Four songs were recently recorded with Blake Walker Audio to include on the EP, including one track just added to the band’s MySpace titled “A Housing Project Named Desire.” You can hear it by clicking here. The band hopes to have the EP ready in time for its show at The Outland Saturday night with Loose Lips Sink Ships and The Short Histories of Powerful Nations, but if not it will be available at the farewell show in August. We would say more, but, frankly, we’re out of literary death cliches.
