*** UPATED*** Memorial benefit show brings back some local faves of the past

June 15, 2009

Someone dug the DeLorean out of mothballs. That’s the best explanation we can come up with for the super-eclectic lineup of performers ready to play the James Davis Memorial Benefit show at Nathan P. Murphy’s on Friday, June 26. Davis, the 22-year-old son of MK Ultra guitarist Kevin Flannery, died in his sleep recently, leaving behind a family without its pride and joy and a mountain of funeral costs to cover. Nothing can help the former, but the benefit show is intended to help the latter. Click through and find out the full lineup (with some cool surprises) after the break.

May 12, 2009

In case you forgot, tonight’s the night. Be at Lindberg’s by 8 p.m. to see Sweetwater Abilene and Pilot Whale creator J.R. Top auction off the chance to shave off his beard onstage. All proceeds will go to the AIDS Project of the Ozarks. It’s not exactly a concert, but who cares? You can be a witness to history–sort of–instead.

Benefit for local musician hit by car

October 13, 2008

We just caught word of this late last night from Dan Magnum of Forever Endeavor Productions. Tommy, drummer of A Day Away and Springfield’s famous drumming group The Cadence, was hit by a car…yes I said hit by a car. He’s hurt really bad and needs support from the music community to help him get by.

Fellow musicians to the rescue. A bunch of big names in the Springfield music scene are working together to put on a benefit show to help raise money so Tommy can pay some bills while he’s laid up.

Full show info, flyer, and A Day Away’s blog post after the jump…
