A Jah Roots update
April 15, 2009There’s a new wrinkle in the Jah Roots “indefinite hiatus” saga, and it comes to us from Josh Nail, the group’s now-former percussionist. Nail tells us the other members of Jah Roots–percussionist Nail, bassist Steve Washburn, drummer Eric Groves, guitarist Mike Hulsey and rapper Aaron “I-Ron” Berger–are still doing music together separately from singer Josh Heinrichs. The group is reportedly putting new songs and sets together and hopes to debut them by late summer. No word yet on whether or not the band will retain the name Jah Roots in its new configuration, but it’s good news to hear that, one way or another, a band that’s brought so many good times to its audience is carrying on.
TWO local Celtic bands? Introducing The Bedlam Saints
April 7, 2009It’s no secret that, following the disagreement within Branson-based Celtic rock group Dirty Old Towne about the band’s decision to stay in Branson another year, guitarist Dan Richards and bassist “Danny Boy” Wilburn left the group. The surprising bit of information is what they’re up to now: a new band. We’ve got more about it after the break.
All Kills Aside loses its bassist to severed fingers
January 30, 2009We got a bizarre and slightly frightening message from the guys in All Kills Aside earlier today, explaining the departure of bass player Clancy Leakey. We’re hoping at least some part of it is fabricated–we’re checking into it as we speak–but we’ll let you get the full update after the break.
A One Star Story no more: Meet Storyline
January 7, 2009We were intrigued when we received an introductory email from Storyline, a new local band harnessing the melodic qualities of pop in a rock package. Then we noticed the members’ names; three-fifths of the band consists of members of the now-defunct Christian rock group One Star Story. Geno Valloni, Bryant Babbitt and Zack Person have regrouped with vocalist Ashley Morgan and bassist Mike Duvall for the new group. Although its sound is a little poppier than OSS, fans of the old group will likely take to this band straight away. Those new to either group who are down hooky music written with feeling should give it a try. The band’s first show in Springfield will be February 12 at Sparrows; we’re interested to see how they sound onstage. In the meantime, give them a listen here and see what you think for yourself.

It’s Van Halen, NOT Van Hagar! Fair Warning, the Van Halen tribute returns!
December 5, 2008One of the Midwest’s BEST and I mean BEST Van Halen cover bands returns tonight (12/5) at The High Life. It’s going to be an 80’s hair, fun, bee-boppin’ crazy jump kickin’ good time.
Don’t believe me? Watch and see what you think. Here’s a video of the band playing “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love:”
Members of A Day Away’s new band, Can’t Be Too Jumpy (new music!)
November 18, 2008A Day Away is taking a break. That doesn’t mean they’re not making music. In the meantime, members of A Day Away (guitarist/vocalist Kevin and drummer Tommy) have started a new project called Can’t Be Too Jumpy. They’ve got new music up and its hella fun (yes, hella) and worth a listen.
