The Show Report, 8/28: They’re baaaaack…

by

Notice anything different this week? Longer lines at traffic lines, perhaps? A sudden proliferation of people who think last night’s pajamas and shorts with greek letters printed on the ass are acceptable I’m-in-public wear? Yup, college is back in session, and local music is ready to serve up some excellent shows students and postgrads alike. After a summer of surprisingly full rooms and an explosion of touring shows, it’s time to take things up another notch or two as students hungry for partying opportunities flock to Springfield’s music venues. Hopefully they remember to change first. See what should be on the top of everyone’s iPhone calendars after the break.

* Black Box Revue brings back one of its favorite and most popular guests, French Horn Rebellion, for its dance-party-meets-live-show at The Outland

* Q102 Homegrown returns with Troy, Six Shots Till Dawn, Assembly Line Gods and Nocturnal Nation at The Outland Ballroom

* Shaun Murphy, made famous as a member of prominent Michigan-based group Little Feat, comes to Nathan P. Murphy’s as part of the club’s 28th anniversary celebration.

* The Shotgun Brothers, The Lowdown Fancy and The Hundred Hand String Band are the entertainment for The High Life Live Martini Lounge’s birthday party. Just how old is The High Life? It doesn’t tell, which suggests it’s pretty old. (We don’t remember ourselves, but it’s more than a decade. Thoughts?)

Ghost Dance at Lindberg’s

* The Ben Miller Band at Patton Alley Pub

* The Electrics at Springfield Brewing Company. No, Eddie Gumucio didn’t leave the band. He prefers the group get recognition rather than have it appear to be his backing band. Classy move, especially considering Gumucio can carry the name cred with his experience in the scene.

Uncle Rico’s Time Machine at Dennis’ Place

* Marshall Law at Three 20’s Club

* N 2 Deep at Archie’s Lounge

* Sequel Dose at Fusion

* Steve Smith & The Sneakers at The Daily Pub

* The Plowboys at Townhouse II

* Trash Angels at Roadhouse Saloon
