Having so many Red Dirt country acts come through Springfield of late appears to have had one significant positive impact: Showgoers got a living, breathing reminder that country music’s roots run very, very deep in American musical culture. In other words, Nashville is way, way off. Forever Endeavor Productions and The Outland pay their own respects to those roots May 9 with a concert by roots-music dynamo William Elliott Whitmore, whose album Animals In the Dark has gotten a lot of attention of late and has landed him on MTVu’s “The Freshman 5,” a contest to vote one of five videos into regular rotation on the network. Complementing, yet also countering, Whitmore’s gritty Dustbowl-era sound are the sweeter harmonics of Frontier Ruckus. Rounding out the ensemble is local roots-rock band on the rise The Bootheel. The show is $6. Doors open at 9 p.m.
