Sweetwater Abilene changes bassists

Rumors of lineup changes have been around Sweetwater Abilene for almost two months now, but everything we’d heard until this past weekend suggested they wanted to add another guitar player. Instead, bassist Matt Netzer, aka “Michael St. John,” is out of the group. So who’s in? Click below to find out.

The group’s new bassist is Jeb Venable, who previously toured with the Ryan Bingham Band and is known locally for playing in groups such as the Dirty 30s and the Cropdusters. Venable had been practicing in recent weeks to learn the band’s songs on guitar, but when “creative differences” emerged and Netzer left, Venable was back to playing the instrument he’s most familiar with. No word on the new lineup’s first gig together, but we’ll let you know.
