One of the subtle joys of being a major regional music act is you can fill your planner with things to do from front page to back if you’re industrious. Big Smith, never ones to sit around, will hit the road once again next spring for another run of out-of-town dates. One booking that stood out to us: June 2009, as part of the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival in Lawrence, Kansas. The five-man Bilyeu family band (six total, including Molly Healey on fiddle) was on the bill in 2008, too, and it seems to us that already being confirmed for next year is a pretty sweet vote of confidence and a reflection on what people thought of their previous showing. For the record, next year’s Wakarusa festival is scheduled for June 11-14. Keep watching the official Wakarusa website for a full lineup release.
